Chapter IV: The Story Of The Arc
Having been working along side two other students with this project, it was realised that our ideas were running in similar directions. As such a decision was made to link the 3 films together to establish one larger story. The two students also have work online which can be seen by following these two links:
Andrew Pooley
Josh Harris
Andrew will be creating a film based on the history of the Arkwright Haunting myth, the focus being on the plane crash, what happened and where. He is focusing on using old archive footage.
My film is going to be a present day exploration of the site, investigating the myth through 'found footage' filmed in the basement. It will be focusing on the disappearance of the student who filmed it and using many subtle effects to allow the viewer to form ideas of their own about what is happening.
Finally Josh's film will be focusing on the more gruesome aspects of the haunting, finding a dead body in the basement for example.
The proposal is that the films will be shown in exactly that order, to create an overarching beginning, middle and end to our story. This will provide a greater feeling of the suspension of disbelief theory coming into play, with many films reinforcing the same concept to push it further into reality. This will certainly elevate the creepy feeling of the basement by making the myth seem like something which is based on genuine history, as opposed to being simply a made up story for the point of a project.
This idea has a lot of potential to it, it will be exciting to see the final films combined together in the basement.
